Jairaj Moreshwar Phatak was the 25th municipal commissioner of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), India.[1]
Jairaj Phatak did his M.Sc. (Physics) from Indian Institute of Technology Bombay in 1975.[2] This was capped with a Masters in Public Administration from John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University and D.B.A.(doctorate) from Bombay University, making him one of the most highly educated bureaucrats in the country.
He belongs to the 1978 batch of IAS officers. He served as the Principal Secretary in Urban Development department of Maharashtra Government. His tenure as school education department secretary was lauded for the efforts he undertook to improve the lot of students.
He succeeded Johny Joseph as the Municipal Commissioner of Mumbai in May 2007.
